Mu Wang (王牧) (she/her) is a theater and film director as well as writer and performer. She was born in China. In 2016, Mu began her studies in screen-/theater writing at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. Since 2020, Mu has been living in Germany, where she completed her directing studies at the Academy of Performing Arts and Film Academy Baden-Württemberg.
Mu has a special feeling for magical-realistic narratives. As her own diasporic perspective provides inspiritions, questions about identity and power appear to be the most important recurring themes in Mu’s work.
Mu performs in almost all of her own theater works. Her solo IN DIESEM MOMENT DENKEN ALLE AN MICH was invited to the Theater Festivals in Stuttgart and Timisoara, Romania. DAS ROTE, developed at Berliner Ringtheater, is invited to Copenhagen in 2026.
Her short film UNPOETIC POEMS premiered at Hong Kong Arthouse Film Festival. Her graduation short film in cooperation with ARTE, THE GIRL IS TAKEN AWAY BY ALIENS, premiered at Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis 2026.
