Mu Wang (王牧) (she/her) is a theater and film director as well as writer/performer. She was born in China. In 2016, Mu began her studies in screen-/theater writing at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing. Since 2020, Mu has been living in Germany, where she completed her directing studies at the Academy of Performing Arts Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg under the mentorship of Christof Nel and Carolin Hochleichter in 2024.
From funeral to Cyberpunk in the church, Mu has a special feeling for dark issues. As her own diasporic perspective provides distinctive inspiritions, questions about identity and power appear to be the most important recurring themes in Mu’s work.
In theater, Mu works extensively with body and space. On the big screen, Mu tells deeply personal stories always with a mystrious color.
Her short film UNPOETIC POEMS premiered at ENCOURAGE Film Talent (2024). Her solo performance IN DIESEM MOMENT DENKEN ALLE AN MICH was invited to the Stuttgart Europe Theater Meeting (SETT) and the Network Theater Festival as part of the Timisoara European Capital of Culture.
Her graduation short film in cooperation with SWR/ARTE, THE GIRL IS TAKEN AWAY BY ALIENS, is going to premiere at Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis 2026.
